Abstract

Greenhouse gas emissions from the current municipal solid waste management system in Zvornik, Bosnia and Herzegovina were calculated and compared with an improved scenario projected for 2027. STAN 2.5 software was used to visualize waste flows and IWM-2 software was applied for GHG emission calculations. The current system relies on landfill deposition without a degasification system or landfill gas treatment. The improved scenario incorporates separate collection of recyclables and biodegradable waste, along with recovery of landfill gas. Implementation of these measures would result in a reduction of approximately 40% in GHG emissions compared to the current Status Quo scenario.
