Gender Differences in Understanding of Thermal Expansion

Abstract

A conceptual assessment of 195 first-year engineering students revealed that male students significantly outperformed female students in understanding of thermal expansion, with particularly large differences on questions requiring one-dimensional thermal expansion reasoning.
