Online Methods in Chemical Education: the Revolution is Here
Abstract
The mode of teaching in universities has not changed greatly for a century or more. The technology associated with the internet means that we can now make major changes as we move further into the 21st century. After the Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was established in 2005, extensive e-learning resources were put in place and have continued to be developed. A blend of written material, images, videos and quizzes is deployed in online sequences to ensure students are prepared for practical work. NTU has since launched a major initiative on "Technology Enabled Learning" (TEL). These initiatives are opening up opportunities to change the way students learn. The e-learning described in this lecture was employed in courses on Forensic Science and Organic Chemistry at NTU and evaluated by discussion with students and by formal teaching feedback.Downloads
